Aizwal

The youngest state Mizoram, formerly known as the Lushai Hills is situated in the Norrth Eastern Corner of India. It is flanked by Bangladesh and Tripura in the West and Burma in the East.

ENTRY FORMALITIES

Foreign tourists intending to visit Mizoram require Restricted Area Permits issued by the All Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) in Calcutta, Delhi & Bombay. Cheif Immigration Office, Madras & All Indian Mission Abroad. Inner line permits for Indian tourists are issued through The Deputy Director cum-Liaison Officer, 24 Old Ballygunge Road, Calcutta- 700 019, Tel: 247-7034.The permits can also be obtained from the Laision Officer of The Government of Mizoram, Mizoram House, Rangir Kharia, Silchar, Assam, Tel : 559, 659, 754; Mizoram House, Laision Officer, Zoo Road, Guwahati- 781 005, Tel : 87091.

Application should be submitted in the prescribed profroma available from the above office on arrival in Guwahati/Silchar. The forms should be completed in person together with two passport size photograhs signed in the presence of the Laision Officer and should put your signature in the office register.

Temperature (Deg C) : Summer - Max. 29, Min. 20 ; Winter - Max. 21, Min. 10.
Rainfall : Approx. 200 cms to 350 cms. ( May to September ).
Best Season : September to May.

TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATION

  • Air : Vayudoot service connects Aizwal with Guwahati, Silchar & Calcutta which inturn is connected by Indian airlines flights to major cities in India.
    Air Fare : Calcutta-Guwahati Rs.1594/- (J), Rs.1433/- (C), Rs.1157/- (Y) Vayudoot Fare : Calcutta-Aizwal Rs.
  • Rail: Nearest railway station Silchar (Assam) is 180 kms from Aizwal, where as Guwahati, 397 km from Silchar, is the most convenient railhead connected with the most of the major places in India. 204/203 Tripura Passanger, 5811/5811 Barak Valley Express and 5801/5802 Cachar Express connect Silchar with Guwahati.
    Fare: Calcutta-Guwahati-Silchar Rs.1716/- (AC/I), Rs.948/- (AC/Sleaper),Rs.751/- (I), Rs.417/- (AC/Chair car), Rs.237/- (II).
  • Road: Aizawl is connected by National Highway No.54 to the rest of the country via Silchar. Some of the distances : Guwahati 506 kms, Imphal 374 kms, Kohima 497 kms, Shillong 430 kms, Agartala 443 kms etc.
  • Bus Services : Mizoram State transport and private buses ply from Aizawl to Champhai, Lunghai, Silchar etc.
  • Local Transport : Unmetered taxi charge Rs.75/- approximately for 2 to 3 hrs.
